Chicago isn't ideal compared to other cities.
Key Points
Housing <
Chicago has some of the toughest housing obstacles for apartment approval. Most realtors want mandatory proof of employer, perfect consumer credit, first and last months rent plus security deposit. And a flawless background report.
Parking <
You can't find parking anywhere in Chicago. That includes public parking garages, parking lots, and on residential and commercial streets. You can waist a lot of money just dealing with the aggravation and frustration of parking. Case in point, 10 years ago in San Fran, I was legally pulled over and removed from my rental car. After the cop saw that my Illinois driver's license was suspended due to unpaid parking citations.
Violence <
Chicago is historically and presently known for it's notorious gun violent crimes dating as far back to The Valentine's Day Massacre. If you’re thinking of moving to Chi-town to start a violent street gang or graffiti crew. Think again because Chicago has one of the toughest law enforcements and newspapers in the country, and takes real violent crime reporting seriously.
Chicago has some of the most historically deep rooted, systematically segregated communities, for poor, disproportionate, disenfranchised people of color living in America, including Latinos, LGBTQ+, South East Asians and Pacific Islanders. For example Chinatown, and Little India.
ID Theft <
Chicago is very vulnerable to Criminal ID Theft. For example, one of your close roommates or relatives can easily use your PII (Personally Identifiable Information) for all of their criminal arrest charges. And without your authorization. If this happens, you can say goodbye to getting hired and or accommodated until that derogatory has been removed from every major background reporting bureau in the State of Illinois.
